Happy New Year!

Wow, December has flown by for us! The Monday following Thanksgiving the boys and I took a trip to Kauai with my parents and my sister. It was a great family vacation. We were able to find sun each day but one, even though it rained over most of the island the entire time we were visiting. The boys played in the surf and we all laughed a lot.

Kyle had his monthly check-up with Dr. Olson on December 19th and it went very well. Dr. Olson told Kyle that he thought it was his best check-up in the last three months! Kyle continues to show no symptoms of his tumor and his blood work and counts remain strong. What a great way to roll into the holidays!

Christmas Eve the boys celebrated with my extended family and Christmas Day they spent time with their dad, his girlfriend, and her family. Although it is a busy schedule, both Nicolas and Kyle love the chaos and spending time with family.

As we wrap up 2007 there is much to reflect upon. I would never have guessed what this past year would bring us. Cancer is an unwelcome visitor that no one needs or deserves. But all the challenges of the year have taught me so much. I have learned that we all have an inner strength that bolsters us in the darkest times. I have learned that love is an amazing gift: it fills us when we feel despair, it comforts us when we feel alone, and it brings us joy when we feel hopeless. I have learned that people are good. But most of all, I have learned that cancer can’t beat us. It can’t take away all the lessons of hope, joy and love that been learned. It can’t take away the memory of each moment of this amazing journey of life.

As I look to 2008 I am filled with hope. Hope for Kyle and all the other kids fighting brain bumps. And hope for all of you who have prayed for Kyle and our family. We hope that 2008 brings you joy, laughter, and happiness.
